SOLEDAD SERNA ESTRADA, age 87, of Hometown, IL passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family, on February 4th, 2021. Soledad was born on July 20, 1933 in a tiny ranch in Zacatecas, Mexico. Soledad was BIG on Family! She loved her Mother and Father but ESPECIALLY her Father. Soledad and her father had a special, tight bond and she had so much respect for him. Soledad had four siblings, three older brothers named Juan, Felix, Jose and one younger sister named Maria. As a little girl she loved to wake up early in the morning to help her father and brothers work in the fields. She was loved dearly by her friends, and family. Back in the day, she drove the boys crazy and they would obsess over her and her beautiful, long, black hair! Soledad grew up to be a Mother of NINE Children and Grandmother to FORTY Grandchildren!! She had four boys and five girls and she loved all of them very much. She ALWAYS put her children first. She was a selfless and strong woman who raised her children all on her own. She did the best she could with the little they had and managed to give them a good life. With the little money that she had she packed her bags and moved to the United States Of America! Life was different in America but she liked it. She knew America had better opportunities for her and her children. Soledad enjoyed all the little things in life and always made the best out of what she had. She loved embroidery and was very good at it. Her favorite tv show was caso cerrado (Mexican Judge Judy) and her favorite foods were boneless wings, chicken tenders, pizza and fries. Her favorite drink was Coca Cola. She also loved to go on long walks because she enjoyed the peace that nature brought to her. But what she loved most was spending time with her grandchildren. She cherished her grandchildren and even helped raise them. She was always there for them and would remind them how much she loved and cared for them. Soledad had a BIG heart and loved her family very much. She will be greatly missed and her memory will live on in our hearts forever.
