Robert Jerome Streit

Robert Jerome Streit, age 87, of Calumet City, Illinois passed Friday, February 14, 2020. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years: Dorothy Streit (nee Solcich); 4 children including: Marianne, Robert and Sharon; 5 Grandchildren: Michael, Matthew, Marikate, Joshua and Sarah; 4 Great Grandchildren: Maddox, Madison, Declan and Brennan;  1 Sister: Dorothy and 2 nephew: Robert and Kevin. 

Robert was born and raised in Chicago. He served in the United States Army; Artillery Detachment. He made his career as a Boilmaker at LTV Steel; often working long hours to support his family. He provided opportunities to his children and grandchildren that he was not afforded growing up. Robert was a strong and caring man. He loved the Windy City, classical music, crossword puzzles and genealogy. He also enjoyed corresponding with extended family in America, Norway and Germany.

Robert suffered a series of debilitating strokes. His quiet endurance with his failing health was a testament to life and part of his legacy. The family would like to thank the following who helped take care of Robert: His nephew, Kevin, Ed, the staff of Visiting Angels, the staff of Vital Home Care and Hospice of the Calumet Area.

Family and friends are invited to gather at Castle Hill Funeral Home (248 155th Place Calumet City, IL) on Friday, February 21, 2020 from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM for visitation. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at St Andrew the Apostle Church of Calumet City, Illinois  at 11:00 AM. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery of Alsip, Illinois.
