Paul Joseph Updyke, age 83, of Calumet City passed away September 19th, 2025 in his home. He was born January 29, 1942 to Orie and Edna Updyke, who preceded him in death alongside his brother, Charles; and his twin sisters, Mary and Margaret.
Paul is survived by "his girls": his beloved wife of 57 years, Kathleen; his three daughters - Jennifer, Kimberly (James), and Cynthia (Erich); and his granddaughters - Hope, Grace, and Reese; as well as numerous adored nieces, nephews, and several great nieces and nephews.
Paul honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and retired from Welded Tube Co. in Chicago where he was loved by all his co-workers.
The world was better and brighter for having Paul in it and the warmth of his presence will be a little dimmer in his absence. An exceptional man like him will never be forgotten. His memory persists in the stories he told, his endless recipes, his ability to talk to anyone, and more than a few laughably bad jokes. We bid farewell to a man that was larger than life and truly loved by everyone who knew him.
Family and friends will honor Paul's life by gathering for a wake service Monday, September 29, 2025 from 3-8pm at Castle Hill Funeral Home: 248 155th Pl, Calumet City, IL 60409. Funeral Services will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home followed by Interment Services with Military Honors at 1:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
