Marla Gee

Marla Gee was born to the late Willie and Evelyn Gee on March 6, 1953 in Gary, IN. She was a proud Alumni of Theodore Roosevelt High School, Gary IN Class of 1971.

Marla worked as a secretary and later as an executive assistant at various educational institutes: Theodore Roosevelt High School, Mundelein University, Chicago, IL, and Loyola University, Chicago, IL. Marla lived a brief time in New York and London and enjoyed extensive travel in many parts of Europe. Marla returned to her home base and worked several years at NIPSCO, USPS and later enjoyed working from home as a transcriptionist. It was during this time, Marla decided to return to school to finish her degree at Indiana University, Gary, IN.

In 2014, Marla received, with honors, her bachelor’s degree in general studies with a minor in pre-law. Soon afterward, she was awarded an internship with the Indiana General Assembly and the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus in Indianapolis, IN. Shortly before her illness, Marla enrolled in Valparaiso University’s master’s degree program in pursuit of a law degree.

Marla Gee entered into eternal peace on December 23, 2018, with her family by her side in Munster, IN. She leaves to cherish her loving memory 2 sisters, Willette Brown (nee Gee) (Edward) of Crown Point, IN, Sybil Yvette Burns (nee Gee) (Antoine) of Indianapolis, IN, 2 brothers, Willie A. Gee of Chicago, IL and Patrick K. Gee of Gary, IN, 6 nieces, 1 nephew, 5 grand nieces, 7 grand nephews and many loving family members and friends.

Funeral and memorial services will not be held at her request. The family will have a private gathering in honor of her memory.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to William J. Riley Memorial Residence in Munster, IN for their support during her brief time in their care.
