Manuel “Memé” Garza, age 95, of Calumet City, Illinois, formerly of Laredo, Texas passed away on August 22, 2021.
He was born February 10th, 1926, in Laredo, Texas to Luisa Gallegos Garza and Andres Garza. He is survived by his beloved wife Amalia (Perez) Garza, loving children, Manuel R. (Louise) Garza, Francisca E. Servin, Thelma (Late Tony) Engleton, Fernando (Christine) Garza, Gloria (Late Jaime Rodriguez) Kinder, Eduardo Garza, and Claudia Vera, Cherished grandchildren, Anthony Engleton, Jennifer (Omar) Salazar, Amber (Mitchell) Lynn, Regina Engleton, Marissa Garza, Adrian Vera, Danielle Garza, Mathew Garza, Alexis Garza and 5 great-grandchildren.
Manuel is preceded in death by his parents, Luisa Gallegos Garza and Andres Garza, Siblings Guillermo, Andrea, Andres, and Delia.
Manuel married Amalia on April 23rd, 1950, in Laredo, Texas. Retired from Inland Steel after 35 years of service. Honorably served as a paratrooper in the United States Army and was a Veteran of World War II.
He loved watching old westerns. In his younger days, he liked tinkering on his cars and enjoyed many years of his wife’s delicious meals.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 30, 2021 at Castle Hill Funeral Home: 248 155th Place, Calumet City, Illinois 60409 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Patrick Lyons officiating followed by Interment Services at Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation Sunday from 4-7 p.m. and Monday morning from 9:00 a.m. until time of services.
