 Joanne  Lentz (née Reznik) Obituary

In Loving Memory of Joanne Lentz (nee Reznik)

Joanne Lentz age 82, of Calumet City, IL transitioned peacefully to Heaven surrounded by her loving children on Monday, February 26, 2024.  A tireless woman who embodied the true spirit of kindness and generosity, fully embracing the golden rule of Jesus, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

On New Year’s Eve 1960, while on leave from the USAF Bob proposed to Joanne. She quickly accepted his proposal of marriage and in a swift week of planning they were married just 8 days later. Her extended family jumped in with resources to provide formal invitations delivered ASAP, a bridal gown, bride’s maid dresses, and a professional photographer. Over 300 guests joined Joanne and Bob to celebrate their marriage that would span 41 years, with a formal dinner and danced the night away to the sounds of the Musical Aires, her brother Jerry’s band. Two weeks later Joanne followed Bob to Laughlin Air base in Texas. His career took them on to the island of Guam and to Peru, Indiana where he served his country proudly, before returning to their hometown of Calumet City with their now growing to family of five.

Born and raised within the parish of St. Andrew the Apostle Church, known now as Jesus Shepherd of Souls, Joanne volunteered her services over the last 50 years in both the parish and the former school. During the 60’s, 70’s & into the 80’s she volunteered as her daughter Jackie’s Girl Scout Troop Leader and was active with the Women’s Club activities. She was a member of the parish’s Sunshine Club/Sunny Friends, St. Rita’s Altar Guild, Carmelite Guild, Rosary Ladies Confraternity, Apostleship of Mary and Mary’s Maids where she worked behind the scenes with cleaning, decorating and making sure that all the Priests cassocks and altar cloths were clean and pressed. In 2016, she received the distinguished honor of being designated as the recipient of the “Woman of Distinction Award” by the Archdiocese of Chicago Council of Catholic Women.

Joanne was also active in the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 330, where she served as Past President and as the Treasurer for many years. She also served as the President of the 8th District’s American Legion Auxiliary.

In 2012 Joanne retired from TF North High School after 37 years working in the cafeteria where she was best known as the “Candy Lady.”  She always loved running into and be recognized by former students.

Joanne was well known as a talented seamstress, cook and baker, sharing her talents with all her family and friends. She was known to bake over 7,000 cookies at Christmas time to share with them all.

Joanne is survived by her children: Jackie (Chris) Bowman, Joe (Gayle Novakovich) Lentz, and Michael Lentz; her grandchildren who lovingly called her Busha: Nichole (Jayme) Dalsing, Blake Torphy, Kirsten (Andrew Cheung) Lentz, Tyler Lentz, Noah (Dallas Crowther) Lentz, & Dominic Lentz; two great-grandaughters: Alissa Dalsing and Zoey Lentz; her sister-in-law Kathy Reznik; nephews and nieces: Brad (Ronna) Reznik, Tracy Mistretta, Sue (Dave) Sagan, Bobbi Jo Gibson, Patti (Benny) Puntillo, Mikki (John) Swets, Mark (Shannon) Reznik, Lori (John) Edwards and Christi (Kyle) Letourneau.
