James moved on to his next journey from his son's home on Jan. 14, 2023, after an epic battle with cancer.
Loving father to son Brian (Julia) Marrant; grandfather to Alexander and Joshua, brother to Thomas (Yolanda) Marrant, uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his wife, Carol Ann Mindock Ford Marrant; his sister Nancy (Bill) Ford and nephew Thomas Ford; his father, Joseph Marrant, and mother Katheryn “Grandma K” Schubert Marrant.
James' life will be celebrated 4-8 pm Friday, September 13, 2024 at Castle Hill Funeral Home: 248 155th Place Calumet City, Illinois. Funeral Services will be Saturday morning with a gathering at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at neighboring St. Andrew's Church and Interment Services at Holy Cross Cemetery.
James had long career as a printing pressman, with time in the Graphic Communications International Union, working for Rand McNally in Hammond, IN, Barton Printing and Alpha Graphics in Chicago, IL. He enjoyed RC car racing. James was an involved Cub Scout Den Leader for St. Victor Troop 216.
James was a long time deer hunter and fisherman, and caregiver of many dogs and cats. He enjoyed woodworking, tooling and creating as a handyman, often inventing or fabricating special parts and creating beautiful furniture. His prized Buick Riviera was featured in the Riviera Owners Association magazine and was award First Place In Class in the 2018 International Meet.
