Ila Jean Burns, age 90, of Hammond, Indiana passed away November 1, 2025 at her home with her family at her side. She was born to Frank and Ella (née Hellar) Brockemeier on January 5, 1935 in West Pointe, Nebraska.

Ila Jean was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Ella, husband Dale E. Burns; siblings: Sylvia Iden, Aaron Brockemeier, and Arvalene Christ; daughter-in-law Nadine Burns.

Ila Jean is survived by her loving children: Janene Burns, James C. Burns (Laura Stephan-Burns), Dale E. Burns II (Penny); cherished grandchildren: Jeremy Burns, Jamie Rosen (Chris), Amy Scharinker (Mike), Dale Burns III, Amanda Burns, Johnny Burns and Travis Burns; adored great-grandchildren: Austin and Connor Rosen, Zak, Nolan and Clayton Scharinker, Dale IV, David and Jackson Burns.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life on Thursday, November 6, 2025 at Castle Hill Funeral Home: 1219 Sheffield Avenue, Dyer, Indiana 46311 with a visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. followed by a service officiated at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home and Interment Services at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, Indiana.

Ila Jean was a dedicated LPN who devoted her life to being a caregiver. Her love for her family was the most important thing in her life.
