Gail Renee Geyer (née Alvarez) Obituary

Gail Geyer, born December 14, 1943 in Dallas, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2025 in Dyer, Indiana.

Gail was a devoted mother to her sons Timothy, Henry, and foster daughter Toni. A beloved sister to Gloria and Jennifer. She was the proud grandmother of Kristan, Holly, Renee, Arianna, Nathaniel, Emily, MaryGrace, Lillian, William, Ryan, Mariann, Benjamin and Bonnie, and the cherished greatgrandmother of Serenity, Annakin, Nova and Aubree. She was also loved by many uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Gertie Alvarez, whom she loved deeply.

Gail graduated from the California School for the Deaf in Riverside and then proudly attended Gallaudet University on Scholarship and later earned her degree from Cal Poly Pomona. She dedicated her career to education, touching countless lives with her patience, strength, and unwavering belief in the potential of every student.

Faith was an important and personal part of Gail’s life. From her earliest years, she looked for opportunities to learn about the Lord the best way she could. She would always look for opportunities to learn about her faith, looking for churches that provided ASL interpreting. She would talk about her faith if you asked, and in her last few years would pray often. She found a loving church home at Calvary Church in Hemet, California, where she cherished the fellowship, the worship, and the community that embraced her.

Gail will always be remembered for her love of animals, and in her adult life would rarely be seen without her “Hearing Guide Dog”. Starting with Pee-Wee, then Happy, Tinkerbell, and Walnut. These dogs provided companionship and accessibility to Gail and were loved by all.

What defined Gail was not the challenges she faced, but the way she rose above them. She refused to let her disabilities limit her spirit or her ambitions. She competed in wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis, and martial arts, eventually earning her Black Belt. She embraced each sport with determination and joy. She was especially proud of her achievements and participation in the Para-Olympic Games. Her love of adventure took her across the country, doing the things that made her feel most alive.

Gail will be remembered for her resilience, her independence, her love of family, and her fierce commitment to living life on her own terms. Her legacy lives on in the family she loved and the many people she inspired.

A funeral service will be held on January 23, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Pomona Cemetery Mausoleum.
