Gail E. Holliman, 86, of Portage, Indiana passed away on 5/18/2026. Gail was born on 5/27/1939 in Lowell, Indiana to Leslie & Lillian Bellwood.

Gail will be remembered for her immense love of animals, her quirky personality and her fiercely independent spirit. She was feisty, unapologetically herself and never afraid to speak her mind. Gail had a special place in her heart for unwanted and abandoned animals, often rescuing them to ensure they could live their very best lives. Those who knew her often joked that she was going to outlive us all – and she certainly gave us a run for our money.

She dedicated much of her time serving at the Bonner Senior Center in Portage, where she led classes aimed at improving the lives of senior citizens. She also taught classes at the YMCA. Gail remained active and lived humbly throughout her later years.

She is survived by her two daughters, Earlene Meneski of Valparaiso Indiana, Robin (Wendell) Patton of Peru Indiana; three Grandchildren, Rebecca (Joshua) Boyd, Joshua (April) Frye, Nicole (Jeremy) Melton; five Great-grandchildren & one Great-Great Grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband Earl C. Holliman, and her son Earl C. Holliman Jr.

Gail will be deeply missed by many along with her sugar pancakes and creative hairstyle.

In lieu of donations or flowers to the funeral home, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Gail’s honor to support the Bonner Senior Center in Portage.

A celebration of life will be held in the coming months.
