Edwina Ida Sorge (née Lien)

Edwina Ida Sorge (née Lien), age 91, was welcomed into heaven on January 5, 2022 at her home in Hammond, Indiana.

She is survived by her three sons William, Robert (Denise) of Hammond, Indiana, and Brian (Barbara) of India as well as her daughter Rebecca (Mark) Carter of Athens, Alabama and her brother Harold (Corliss) Lien of Arroyo Grande, California. She has 9 cherished grandchildren, William Sorge Jr. (Michelle), Jennifer Kuchar (Steve), Aaron Sorge (Molly), David Sorge (Larissa), Joshua Sorge (Caroline), Dr. Crystal Walker (Jonathan), Holly Vaughan (Jason), Jordan Koonce (Laura), and Madison Carter. Also Great Grandchildren Tony, Hailey, Lauryn, Jeremiah, Jaylyn, Karyssa, Kiran, Zoe, Quinn, Andy, Conner, Ben, Lainey, and Elyse. Great-great grandchildren Layton and Raven.
Edwina was preceded in death by her loving Husband of 38 years, Rev. Virgil Sorge, her sister Janice Goates and her parents Harold Sr. and Ruth Lien.

Edwina was born on July 17, 1930 in Hammond, Indiana. She graduated from Hammond Tech High School and Bryan College in Dayton, TN. with a degree in Christian Education in 1954. She raised 4 children and also worked as a receptionist. She was a Sunday School teacher, AWANA leader and deeply involved in the support of foreign missionary work. She was a member of Christian Fellowship Church in Hammond, IN. for over 50 years.

Edwina was a loving mother and grandmother who supported and loved her family and friends unconditionally. Her loving kindness was shared with many people and her spirit and joy of life will live on through all those she touched. She will be rejoicing in the presence of our Lord awaiting our reunion.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Edwina’s life on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at Castle Hill Funeral Home: 1219 Sheffield Ave., Dyer, Indiana. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 4:00 pm and the service will begin at 4:00 pm. Following the service, family and friends will gather to honor Edwina’s life at a location that will be announced at the service.
