Bernard “Bernie” James Pawlasek Obituary

Bernard “Bernie” James Pawlasek of Lowell, Indiana, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024, at the age of 77 in his home after a courageous fight with pancreatic cancer. Bernie is survived by his two sisters, Carol (Carl) Vickers and Judy Pleyer; several nieces and nephews, Gary (Anne) Vickers, Michele (Gary) Stanley, Lisa Kil, Greg (Gretchen) Vickers, Jill Hannigan, and Marcy (Charles) Ishmael; as well as many great nieces and nephews. Bernie is preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Carole Pawlasek, and parents, Bernard and Sophie Pawlasek. He retired from Inland Steel in 2008 after working there for 44 years.

We lost a wonderful, great man. He was the best! He was a son, husband, brother, uncle and an invaluable friend. He was loved dearly and will be greatly missed. He brought a smile to everyone's face whether by a look he gave you or something he said. He had an awesome sense of humor! There was no need to always have a conversation with him. Just sitting in a room with him was enjoyable. Or, friends out hunting with him sitting quietly in the tree stand. It's these moments we will treasure in our hearts forever. He loved hunting and fishing; being one with nature. He enjoyed fishing at Willow Slough, the old sand pit, Bass Lake, Pine Lake, Stone Lake, and many other places. He went hunting often, even to Canada! Over the years, he got many deer, antelope, and bears! There is no doubt that he is with our Lord and one day we will see him again. We welcome any stories you have to share with us in the days, months and years to come. Bernie (Uncle Bernie), we love you and we miss you. We will hold dear in our hearts that one day we will see you again. Enjoy hunting and fishing. We're certain you'll find the biggest buck!

We would like to thank Bernie's many friends and neighbors for their friendship they had with Bernie and their support in his care.

Per Bernie's request, there will not be a funeral service. However, he agreed for his family and friends to gather for a cookout. His Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date.
