Anthony Palfi, Sr. “Anton”. Born on November 6, 1934 in Bonyhàd, Tolna County, Hungary. Passed away on September 14, 2020. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ramona; three children: Denise (Robert) Slevnik; Anthony (Lynn) Palfi, Jr.; and Eva Palfi; seven grandchildren: Nichole (Nick) DeMario; Kristen (Brad Lojewski) Odijk; Jessica Palfi; Stephanie (Andrew) Balaz; Robert (Megan) Slevnik; Heather Palfi; and Nina Decker; one great-grandchild: Braylin Nelson; numerous nieces and nephews; lifelong friend, Mac Sakal. Preceded in death by his parents, Franz and Eva Palfi, and his siblings, Franz (Louise) Palfi, Stefan Palfi, and Marie (Louie) Hegedus.
Anthony “Tony” and his family arrived at Ellis Island, New York on December 13, 1951 on the General S D Sturgis Ship. Tony worked hard to become a U.S. citizen. He moved from Battle Creek, Michigan to Whiting, Indiana and then, later in life, to Hammond, Indiana. Tony played professional soccer and later became a coach for Dyer Kickers. Tony was an avid participant of Hammond Homing Pigeon Club, where he was one of the original members and also consistently a Judge for pigeon shows. Tony loved outdoor activities, with hunting and fishing being some of his favorites. Tony retired from Inland Steel as an active member of the 25-year club. Tony will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle.
Family and friends will celebrate his life on Thursday, September 17, 2020 at Castle Hill Funeral Home: 1219 Sheffield Avenue, Dyer, Indiana 46311 with a visitation from 12:00 noon until 4:00 p.m.
