Mario Alberto Haro Obituary

Mario Haro, 71, died on April 13, 2019, at home surrounded by the love of his family after a courageous battle with cancer. Mario Alberto Haro was born November 4, 1947, to Mario and Mirena (Ficachi) Haro in Mexico City. He attended Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and immigrated to the United States in 1972. After retiring from a thirty-year career at Acme Steel in Riverdale, IL, he served as a teacher’s aide and Spanish translator at Hoover Schrum School in Calumet City, IL.

A folk artist, Mario’s Mexican heritage shined through in his art. His vibrant collection of wood burnings were curated and shown numerous times in the area and are now proudly displayed in the homes of his loved ones. Mario was known for his smile, generous with his love and always greeted friends, neighbors and family with a hug.

Mario is preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Penny, father-in-law Robert Nelson and mother-in-law Noreen Nelson.

He is survived by his loving wife of thirty years, Christine (Nelson) Haro, sons John (Tari) Haro, Christopher Haro, Michael (Amanda) Lebioda and Timothy (Melissa) Lebioda and four grandchildren (Nicholas, Jackson, Penelope and Carter) who all loved him dearly. También le sobreviven su familia en México, incluyendo dos hermanas, Lourdes y Mirena, dos hermanos, Tomas y Fernando, y numerosos sobrinos y sobrinas.

Mario’s family would like to extend their gratitude to friends and neighbors for their outpouring of support in Mario’s final days. Memorials may be made in memory of Mario to the Prostate Cancer Research Institute.
