John Robert Heresz

John Robert Heresz, of Hobart, passed away at home on February 26, 2018, at the age of 86.

John was born on March 5, 1931, the son of John and Elizabeth (nee Falusi) Heresz. He grew up in Hessville, IN and graduated from Hammond Tech. In 1953 he completed his four-year apprenticeship as a journeyman machinist with Blaw-Knox Corp. in East Chicago. He retired from Blaw-Knox after working there for thirty years. He continued to work as a machinist and in production/planning for another 21 years. He had many hobbies and interests in his life, including sports, coaching and playing softball well into his 60’s, motorcycle riding, remote controlled model airplane building and flying and an appetite for learning anything. He was a member of the Midwest Sundowners R/C Flying Club and Living Hope Church.

John will be missed by his wife of 61 years, Jean (nee McColley), two children, Sonya (Dairrell) Ham and John (Marna) Heresz, his sister Lorraine (late Herbert) Treen and brother Andrew Heresz, 3 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. His parents and his sister, Eleanor Johnson, precede John in death.

Visitation with family will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, March 2, 2018 with a memorial service at 12:45 p.m. to be held at Living Hope Church, 9000 Taft Street, Merrillville IN. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Calumet Area or to the Benevolence Fund at the Living Hope Church.
