Helen G. Ward (nee Walsh) passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at Western Slope Health Center in Placerville, after a recent illness. Her husband, Michael J. Ward preceded her in death in 1973. Helen was born in 1914 in Chicago, Illinois to Michael and Katherine Walsh. Her parents are deceased as are her eight siblings: Thomas, John, Martin, Bill, Jim, Mary, Kathleen and Annabel. Helen leaves a daughter, Mary Ellen Comerford (Pete) from Pollock Pines; a son, Michael P. Ward from Sierra Madre, CA; daughter, Kathleen Ann Vertuno (deceased). She also leaves a granddaughter, Michelle Cotton (Steve) from San Rafael, CA and a grandson, Michael Jay Vertuno (Katrina) from Simi Valley, CA. Great grandchildren are: Matthew and Mallory Cotton and Sean Vertuno. Helen leaves nieces: Patty Primdahl (Den); Kathleen McCann (Eddie); Belinda Glenn; Jeannie Tabailloux (Jean Luc); and nephews: John Connolly (Mary); Bill Walsh.
Funeral services will be Monday, August 7, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. directly at Holy Cross Cemetery: 801 Michigan City Road, Calumet City, IL 60409 with Bishop Edward Braxton officiating.
Helen lived a full life and enjoyed family and friends. She moved from Chicago in the late 1970’s to Alhambra, CA, and moved again in 2004 to El Dorado County. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Placerville, CA. When asked why she never remarried after being widowed for so long, she replied that once around was enough for her and she had the best. She was also the best.
