Arlene J. Barker (nee Pepperdine) age 82, formerly of Lansing, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Clarendale of Schererville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Lucille Pepperdine. She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 63 years, William C. Barker; cherished daughters: Bonnie (Dale) Jurecki and Pam (Joseph) Darragh.
Arlene was a loving wife, mother and homemaker, who took pride in caring for her family. She devoted her life to her husband and children. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her family and friends at the family summer home in Michigan. She was a wonderful cook and generous host for many gatherings in Michigan for over 50 years. Her husband William was the love of her life and the center of her universe. Her daughters received more love, support and friendship than any daughters could ever hope for. She dearly loved her son in laws and thought of them more so as her sons. While she was not blessed with grandchildren, she dearly loved her furry grandchildren; Latte, Sugar, Hazel and Autumn. She will be terribly missed by her husband, daughters, son in laws and friends but she left us with so many happy and beautiful memories and will never be forgotten.
Arlene moved to Clarendale of Schererville earlier this year. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Clarendale, the compassionate nurses and aids with Hospice of Calumet and the attentive care givers from Need a Helping Hands for the care and compassion she received during her final days.
Per Arlene’s wishes, she will be cremated and await her husband to have their ashes released at the place they loved the most, Lake of the Woods in Decatur, Michigan. She did not wish to have a service, but the family will have a celebration of her life in the near future, a time yet to be determined.
