Nick Bachan, age 71, being one of 14 children born to Nikola and Mary (nee Konopka) Bachan on August 17, 1940, passed away on Monday, July 16, 2012. He is survived by his loving wife, Karen; children: Nicholas "Nick" (Becky) Bachan of Lake Village, IN, Lisa (Jerry) Clusserath of Munster, IN and Deborah (Gregory) Pastor of Rochester Hills, MI; step-children: Cherl Sagil and Christi (Harold) Bigger; grandchildren: Jessica, Sarah, Sydney, Daniel and Noah; step-grandchildren: Shawn and Heather; brothers: Paul (Leona) Bachan, Daniel (Frances) Bachan, Richard (Gale) Bacan, Robert (Loretta) Bachan and Darryl (Bernadette) Mihailovich; sisters: Kathleen (Donald) Knieriemen and Josephine "Dolly" (late Henry) Haluska; numerous nieces and nephews. Nick was preceded in death by his parents Nikola and Mary, brothers: Michael Bacan, Milan Bacan, Joseph Bachan and John Bachan; sisters: Barbara Thweatt and Mary Ann Cooper; and granddaughter Kayla Pastor.
Nick was a graduate of Roosevelt High School and spent his career with Inland Steel retiring with 43 years of service. He was always giving, never taking. He enjoyed playing poker with family and friends, loved fishing and his pets. He also loved watching his children and grandchildren grow and achieve various milestones in their lives. He was an avid environmental engineer of his second-hand treasures. Nick was loved by all who knew him and will be dearly missed.
