George M. Mihalich "Marty"

George M. Mihalich "Marty", age 72, of Hammond, Indiana passed away peacefully on November 5, 2017. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Janice Sobilo; cherished son: Robert (Stephanie) Mihalich; adored grandchildren: Jessica, Courtney, Brittney and James Carlisle, Brianna and Alexis Mihalich; 4 precious great-granddaughters; dear brothers and sisters: Richard (Crystal) Mihalich, Mary (Hector) Ortiz, Robert (Joyce) Mihalich, Kathleen (Ronald) Grzych, Nicholas Mihalich, Paul (Beth) Mihalich, David Mihalich, Joanne Mihalich and James (Amy) Mihalich; numerous special nieces and nephews; and devoted lifetime friend, J. Paul Kotvasz. George was preceded in death by his daughter Lisa Mihalich; sister Frances Mihalich; parents George and Margaret Mihalich.

Marty devoted his life to God, country, family and community. He honorably served in the United States Navy for 22 years, was a Vietnam Veteran and retired as a Chief Petty Officer. He received the 1980 Outstanding Naval Enlisted Reservist Award nationwide, served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Margaret Mercy Hospital for 10 years, was a Cub Scout Master, Pack 258, was an entrepreneur and retired from LTV Steel with 30 years of service as an electronics repairman.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at St. Casimir Church: 4340 S Johnson Ave, Hammond, IN 46327. Family and friends are invited to gather from 9-11 a.m. at the church.
