Earl Walter Margraf, age 84, of Schererville, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2016 surrounded by his loving family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Matthias and Eda Margraf, first wife Marilyn Margraf, a sister Lorraine Wood and a brother Matthias Margraf. He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Ann Buchler; his children: Mary (Rick) O'dea of Hammond, Wayne (Delsia) Margraf of Apopka Fla, Kevin (Denisa) Margraf of Hammond,  Bob (April) Margraf of Shamong NJ, Andrea (Dave) Sayers of Lowell, Sue Margraf of Highland; grandchildren: Mike (Nicole) Patterson, Missy (Nick) Bergner, Nikki (Joe) Popa, Courtney Margraf, Jake (Laurel) Margraf, Sam Margraf; great-grandchildren: Kayla and Aubree Bergner,  Cory and Ally Patterson, Greyson Saczawa, Hudson and Everett Margraf.

Earl was also blessed to have Mary Ann's loving family in his life, step-children: Michael (Patty) Buchler of Schererville, Patrick (Melanie) Buchler and Karen (Dan) Largent, both of Dyer, Kathleen Austin of Chicago, and Ted (Kerry) Buchler of Crown Point, step-grandchildren: Ryan (Julia) Buchler, Aaron (Kristine) Buchler, Jessica (Scott) Wenclewicz, Kevin (Nancy) Largent, Lucas (Katie) Buchler, Breana (Andrew Connelly) Buchler, Hillary Buchler, and Karlie, Lindsey and Mallorie Buchler;  and a step-great-granddaughter Madelyn Largent.

Earl is also survived by his brother, Larry Margraf of Dyer, his niece Debbie Wozniak and family along with many dear friends, including Bob Avalos.

A Korean War Army Veteran, Earl spent much of his life in Highland, where he was employed by Christenson Chevrolet for twenty two years. He maintained an active social life, enjoying traveling to many of his grandchildrens events, productions at a number of area theatres and taking road trips throughout the country. Earl also found great joy in simple activities, particularly taking leisurely walks and watching wildlife from the kitchen window. His thoughtfulness, generosity and easy-going disposition will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew him. 

Earl’s family would like to extend a thank you to the staff at Munster Community Hospital who provided compassionate care during his final days.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016, at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 500 Northgate Drive, Dyer,IN.  Visitation is at 10:00 am followed by Mass at 11:00 am.
