Alexandra Cecile Poremba

Alexandra Cecile Poremba, age 94, resident of The Lutheran Home Arlington Heights, IL passed away on November 14, 2017.

"Alex" was born February 7, 1923 in Stasin, Poland. She immigrated to the United States with her father, Stanley, and her mother, Mary Poremba along with her younger brother Charles Poremba, all deceased, to Calumet City, Illinois.

Alex attended St. Andrew Elementary School and Thornton Fractional Township High School in Calumet City. Graduating in three years from high school in 1937 she was a member of the National Honor Society.

After high school Alex attended Bryant and Stratten College, Chicago, with a Secretarial Training Diploma in January 1941.

In 1950 she began thirty years of employment working for the Department of Labor-The Military Transportation Department at 5th Army headquarters in Chicago. Alex retired in 1980-81.

Alex enjoyed making many trips to visit family members in Poland and California.

Alex was a lifelong member of St. Andrew the Apostle Church Calumet City, IL. At St. Andrew she was a member of the Sunshine Club, Apostleship of Prayer, The Ladies Rosary Confraternity of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, and the Senior Choir.

Alex is survived by her younger brother Stanley Poremba, sisters-in-law Kathie Poremba (wife of Charles), and Catherine Poremba (wife of Stanley), along with nieces, nephews, and their spouses and children.

Visitation will be held at Castle Hill Funeral Home: 248 155th Place, Calumet City, IL 60409 on November 20, 2017 from 9-10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Andrew the Apostle Church will be officiated by Rev. Jacek Dada at 11:00 a.m. followed by Interment Services in the chapel of Holy Cross Cemetery.
